What Constitutes The Best Car Insurance?

from:

What constitutes as the best car insurance deal can be a tricky
thing to define. This is because each individual will have their
own specific requirements.

For the majority of people, price will always be a big factor.
If there are two car insurance products both offering the same
insurance cover but one is 30% more expensive than the other,
then for many people that alone will make the decision.

However, the intense business competition between car insurance
companies coupled with the ability for potential buyers to
rapidly perform online comparison checks, may show potential
buyers that the price differences between policy offers may in
fact be small. Should this be the case, then it may be necessary
to dig a little deeper to decide which offer is the best car
insurance deal available.

Many car insurance policies will carry what is termed 'excess'.
The excess is the amount of any claim that the insurance company
will expect the insured driver to pay directly. The amounts may
vary between companies and typically the higher the excess on a
policy then the cheaper the policy will be.

So, although the cost of a policy may look similar or perhaps
even slightly cheaper, if the excess is higher then in the event
of an accident the policy holder may be forced to reconsider
whether they actually have the cheapest insurance deal!.

All car insurance policies will also contain their own
conditions, clauses and exclusions. These may need to be
examined carefully when contemplating which is the best car
insurance deal on offer.

Exclusions and conditions may cover many different aspects of
the insurance. It may be worth checking whether the policy
excludes nominated younger and/or elderly drivers. Also, some
policies may provide car insurance if a vehicle is taken outside
of the mainland UK, whereas with other policies this is
prohibited or a chargeable extra.

Vehicle types can also be subject to exclusions. Some insurers
may offer driver cover for any driven vehicle, but others may
exclude some types such as sports, vintage and commercial
vehicles or make them subject to additional excess.

Policies may also vary in terms of their no-claims discount.
The no claims discount is the amount of reduction on the
following year's premium cost if the policyholder has gone a
year without making a claim. This is typically cumulative, so
the longer the policyholder goes without making a claim then the
bigger the discount or 'no claims bonus' will be.

Most insurance companies will offer a no claims discount to a
new policyholder if they can produce evidence that they have
earned a no claims bonus from their previous insurer. The
savings here may be significant and it's therefore advisable to
check the discount offers available and the new policy's
discount transfer conditions in advance.

In conclusion, deciding on the best car insurance deal in any
given case will usually be linked specifically to the
requirements and history of the potential policyholder
concerned. Research and shopping around using a car insurance
comparison website may be helpful in making a decision.
